As far back as 1990, despite considerable scepticism from various quarters, we began striking out in new directions where the library was concerned. We developed our own library software, for instance.

We have made use again and again of a society that keeps changing and of the rapid advances in computing and the internet. Over the years we managed the step away from the traditional "parish library" towards a modern "media island" with an attractive range that is still being adapted and extended today.

For reading promotion the book is and remains the most important foundation. Alongside the library as a real place, though, the library as a digital place is becoming ever more important. And here on site too the library is becoming more and more a "third place" in people's lives: alongside home and school or work.

Questions about our services and borrowing

Who can use them?

Anyone who likes reading, finding things out, meeting people ... The German constitution itself says that all people are equal, whatever their faith or origin. So you don't have to live in Stetten or Owingen, or belong to the Catholic Church. We welcome every reader from across Haigerloch and the surrounding area.

To use what we offer you will usually need a valid library card.

How many items may I borrow?

As a rule you can borrow as many items as you like.

Borrowing e-items from the Onleihe is limited, however. With TigerBooks everything available is open to you.

How long may I keep items?

See loan periods.

May I lend borrowed items on to friends?

Borrowed items, like the personal login details for our digital services, must not be passed on to third parties. As the borrower you are liable for any damage or misuse.

How do I renew a loan?

You can renew borrowed items by telephone or email - and of course at the library itself. If another reader has reserved the item you have borrowed, unfortunately a renewal is not possible.

You can also simply send us your renewal request through the bibkat.app on your smartphone, or through your reader account in our catalogue.

E-items cannot be renewed, but as long as nobody has reserved them you can borrow them again straight away.

How high are the overdue fees?

No overdue fees can arise with e-items, since the loan period ends automatically and the e-item can no longer be opened afterwards.

How do I reserve an item that is on loan?

Items on loan can be reserved free of charge. Just ask us here at the library. As soon as the item you reserved comes back, we let you know.

You can also reserve items on loan through the bibkat.app on your smartphone, or through your reader account in our catalogue.

E-items can only be reserved by you yourself. With TigerBooks there is unfortunately no way to reserve.

What do I do if an item isn't there?

You are welcome to suggest that we buy the item you want. If it fits our collection and is not too expensive, there is a good chance we will.

If the book you want is not here, we can also try to get it for you from another library through interlibrary loan.

I've lost or damaged an item!

A loose page can be glued back in, no problem. A book chewed by the dog, or a CD lost on holiday, does have to be replaced. Please just get in touch with us so we can settle how to proceed.
